Public Speaking is not an area where you’d normally think that an iPhone app could help your performance, but perhaps that’s about to change. Ummo is an app that analyses your speech to helpfully point out some of the things that you may not be aware you’re doing that are distracting for an audience. Switch it on while you’re speaking and it will track and alert you when you use filler phrases, such as “Umms” and “Uhhs”, “like”, “you know”. In addition, it will track your pace, word power, clarity, and more, so that you can get some critical feedback on your speech practice. You can even customize it by adding your own dictionary of words or phrases that you want to avoid.
If you’ve tried it, add your comment below and let us know if you thought it helped you to improve your speech preparation.
